Q: Do I need to have a copy of Microsoft Access to run the package?
A: No. The product is based on Access, but is installed in a runtime form. There is a facility within Access to create an application which takes just the bits of Access that it needs, and allows this then to be distributed freely. You will require a copy of Microsoft Excel in order to use some of the advanced reporting, but this can be any version.
Q: What about upgrades to Sage? Won't this upset Bar-Stat?
A: It hasn't happened yet. When Bar-Stat began life, the current Sage version was 5. Nothing at all has had to be done to the package up to and including the current version. The only things that can impact are where file structures change dramatically, or where field names are changed. Corrections to the package to cope with these possibilities are trivial, and we'll know what is required long before you encounter any potential problems.
Q: I already have Sage setup. Does Bar-Stat require a lot of reorganisation of codes?
A: Possibly. Bar-Stat requires that you have two blocks of nominal codes - one for rent/rates etc and the other for personal expenditure. What these blocks are is entirely up to you. On the customer side, members will need to be given a code which is the same as their department, so it is likely there will need to be reorganisation here. But we have this brilliant product which allows us to renumber accounts - to effectively move an account from one reference to another, and take everything with it. So in practice not a problem. This also means you don't necessarily have to wait for a year end to introduce the package.
